Wrestling News July 8, 2005

There isn't much news today.

WWE fired Jim Cornette from his training duties in OVW for his actions as of late. Included in these actions are abusive actions to students and other short-tempered things. This story really makes me wonder what the WWE if going to do now as OVW is owned by Cornette. Do they put in a new trainer and continue to use his facilities even though he isn't on the payroll anymore? Does OVW itself receive money from the WWE to "rent" their space and time developing their workers there? I really don't know how it is structured and haven't found any information online either.

I could see the WWE pulling their guys out and sending them to California to Rick Bassman and UPW and putting him back under their wing since he's operating already. This all ges back to the article James Ray wrote a couple weeks ago. Depending on the situation and set up if Cornette wanted to play hardball then WWE really wouldn't be in a situation to do anything about it. They have nothing else set up yet even though the southern developmental camp has been in the works for months now. There is a lot that can be said about this entire situation (past and present) but I think this is worth keeping an eye on.

Matt Hardy's no compete clause is just about over now as well. In his online commentary he gave more than a strong hint that he will be in TNA shortly.

From ROHwrestling.com: ROH officials had very good discussions with two talents that have recently parted ways with WWE. You can definitely expect to see some new faces in 90 days. Both talents were very excited about competing in ROH on a regular basis. One even wants to train at the ROH Wrestling School.

SD: Interesting...Jimmy Yang seems to be the choice most people online suspect to go to ROH. Who would the other be?

WWE is about a month away from having the training camp in Atlanta with Bill Behrens and Bill DeMott up and running. Originally it was conceived as a second OVW, but if the fallout from Cornette means no more OVW for WWE wrestlers, then this is always an option.

ANd I believe the OVW relationship is that WWE pays OVW a tuition fee to house and train their wrestlers. OVW has their own wrestlers, some who they let in free and some who pay an individual fee to train there.
