Earl Hebner fired by WWE

Dave Meltzer is reporting that Earl Hebner has been fired by WWE: Earl Hebner, the most well known referee in U.S. pro wrestling, was fired earlier today by WWE, allegedly for selling merchandise without authorization.

Reports that Dave Hebner was fired are said to be incorrect at the moment, although he was alleged to be involved and has been disciplined.

SD: Wow. Now this is a shock. After Howard Finkel (and of course any McMahons), Earl and Dave are the two people I never would have thought to ever be fired from the company. Suspended without pay, maybe. But fired? That is a major shock. Given his loyalty and name recognition there has to be a lot of money involved. I just can't see it being for a small amount given his tenure.

What do you expect from the WWE now? They are cold hearted for firing a pregnant Dawn Marie, now they dumped a loyal company guy for doing something silly as selling unauthorized merchandise. I agree, a suspension without pay for a month would be suffice. But, not like this...Incredible.

I am pretty much sure TNA would snatch him up and make him as a "NWA Senior Referee" to mainly referee NWA World Title defenses.

Until we get more details (i.e. how much cash Earl has been making, and for how long), I won't say if I'm surprised or not. If it was a small amount, then yes I would be surprised, but otherwise, you don't cross the boss, especially when the boss is Vinny Mac.
